Black Coffee in a White Cup

Coal black coffee in a snow white cup is an elegant scene, worthy of artistic treatment.  The image above, with its ethereal glow, captures the whatness of the elixir perfectly.

Now I don’t know about you, but every day around 3:30 PM my energy level takes a nosedive and that usually sends me on a quest for a good strong cup of coffee.  But why go to Buckrogers and pay in excess of four dollars when I can brew one up myself for about fifteen cents a cup?

Here in the stew we like Folgers brand coffee.  We can usually score a ten-ounce can for under three dollars on sale.  For afternoon coffee, I recommend Folgers Black Silk variety which is on the macho end of the coffee flavor spectrum.  Add a finger or two of Stella D’oro anisette sponge on the side for dunking and you’ll feel better in no time.

Need This
1 French Press
1 white coffee cup
1 heaping tablespoon of strong coffee
3/4 cup of boiling water
1 finger of Stella D’oro anisette sponge (optional)

Do This

Add the tablespoon of coffee to the press.

Pour in the boiling water and stir once or twice with a plastic spoon.  Let it steep for another two or three minutes then pour into the white cup.  Sip.

Serves 1.   My Cost:  Approx 15 cents.
